The transmission in my 2015 Toyota RAV4 AWD with 175,000 miles had a slight slip (going into 3rd or 4th gear) first thing in the morning, and the rest of the day it was fine. Dealer drained and refilled the fluid twice over 50,000 miles without any change. The car was only ever sent to the dealer in the past. Heard great things about Lake Sumter Transmissions and decided it was time to give them a try. Dan was great up front explaining what they would have to do to diagnose my issue and go over the entire car too checking everything. Randy found nothing wrong with the trans itself (other than dirty fluid), but decided to drain and fill with Amsoil and add a stop shudder additive along with replacing the trans filter. Got car back and no slip since. They were upfront and honest about just draining the fluid rather than telling me I needed a whole new trans for upwards of $7,000, and they could have done just that. I was so happy that their simple recommendation turned out to fix the issue I’ve lived with for so long. They are great and do such a thorough job going over the whole car too, checking for anything that needed attention. I can’t say enough good things about them. I would not hesitate to use them in the future for any of my car care needs. Great job Randy and Dan! Thank you both very much, Marty

I received an excellent diagnosis of my transmission problem. Once the work was completed and I was notified of the repair cost, I was happy to learn the cost was well below the estimate. Their honesty and integrity is hard to find these days and I would return my business if that day ever comes.

The ABSOLUTE WORST do not come here. *BEWARE OF THE $282 scam.* After reading the other negative comments I see this is a common scam they use on their customer. My elderly mother came in because she had a traction light on and her car had been pulling to the left. She asked if they could take a look and see what might be wrong. He said that he would run a diagnostic and let her know. Two hours later he came back and said that would be $282. She was totally blindsided because they had not disclosed that that would be the price before they performed the diagnostic. There are no signs in the office And she was not told that there would be a charge ahead of time. Of course, if a service was done, there should be a charge. I agree with that, but it’s the business practice behind it. The price should be disclosed upfront. Had she known it would be so expensive she would have chosen to go somewhere else. I called back to complain after I had heard about this because my mom was upset. Thomas answered the phone and was the most arrogant and rudest person I have ever dealt with in my life. He felt that he had done nothing wrong and said That they would not be changing their business practice. If I were the owner of this business, he would be gone tomorrow, because the condescending way he spoke to me is no way to treat your customers. And after seeing the reviews about how this has happened too many others, you would think they would change their business practice and disclose the price upfront, but apparently they are doing too well with their scam to make the change. Shame on you.

I only trust my VW Beetle with the individuals at Lake Sumter Transmission. They not only repair my Patty (my cars name), but they always check on her afterwards. I am never surprised by work performed, or cost, because they communicate everything before the work happens. The customer service is excellent!!!

Like Sumter transmission has been my go-to auto repair place for many years. I just got my 2006 Mustang back and it's running great. Now they have my 96 Bronco to work on. It's always something with these old vehicles. But there are a good bunch of people and it's the only place I go. Highly recommended.

I can’t say enough good things about Lake Sumter Auto Repair in Fruitland Park. Josh (mechanic) and Brandon (manager) went above and beyond to take care of my vehicle. You can tell they truly know what they’re doing… professional, honest, and very knowledgeable. Whether it’s a small job or a big repair, they treat it with the same care and attention. The turnaround time was fast, communication was great, and the work was done right the first time. If you’re looking for a shop you can trust, this is it. I highly recommend Lake Sumter Auto Repair… I’ll definitely be coming back!

I really appreciate the customer service. Pictures, detailed notes on service report. I came in for a transmission leaking, it needed a rebuild I was at 292,000 miles. They replaced my starter and radiator as well now my tundra is driving like brand new. I would recommend to a friend.
